Purpose:The NOISE word challenge is used to motivate students to maintain the noise level in the classroom at an appropriate level. Appropriate noise levels will allow students to focus and avoid distractions while completing the task at hand.
Appropriate Use: This strategy should be used in a classroom that needs extra support to lower their volume and talking frequency that is distracting the learning environment.
Mode:The NOISE challenge should be implemented in the classroom with all students.
Materials: Premade or custom-made large, colored letters should be collected to spell out N O I S E. When choosing letters, it is best to use letters about 10 inches or larger so they can be clearly visible.
Participants: Both the teacher and the students should be involved in the NOISE word challenge.
Description:The letters N O I S E will be posted in the front of the classroom in a position visible to all. When the class noise level rises and is inappropriate for the task at hand, the teacher will remove a letter from the end of the word NOISE. If all letters are removed in a day, a predetermined consequence will be implemented. If no letters are removed, the teacher will reward the class.
